I like a bit of a challenge and I’m always keen to learn a few new tricks. I’ve had an idea kicking about for a while of how to use my speed lights accompanied by some coloured gels to create/mimic light at a different time of day. This particular shoot was the perfect way to try the idea out. So at 9am on a Sunday I went out to try and create an image using only whatever natural light was available, 3 speed lights, 2 on stands, one on-camera and a pack of coloured gels to mimic the light of a late afternoon sun. Impossible you say? Ha! Maybe I’ll reveal my secrets one day but for
now, it’s always fun to see who can guess how this was done in terms of light placements, power use per flash, what colour gels, WB setting and general camera settings. Let’s find out who’s a real photographer! ;)
